Saudi Arabia

March 25th 2013 in Briefings International Relations

A suspected spy ring has been dismantled by authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia according to a statement from the country’s interior ministry, released on March 19. The individuals arrested include sixteen Saudis, an Iranian, and a Lebanese” who authorities say were working for an unspecified foreign country. On the same day, human rights activists announced the detention of a number of Saudi Shiites across the country. The Eastern Province of the country has seen sporadic Shia protests in recent years, and the kingdom is wary of Iranian interference both internally, and on the regional level.
