The first set of ‘post-Chavez’ elections will take place April 14, pitting the favoured Nicolas Maduro against opposition leader Henrique Capriles. The race between the two candidates has caused large discourse between both camps with Capriles accusing Maduro of devaluing Chavez’ legacy and Maduro threatening to imprison Capriles. Meanwhile, the Venezuelan government has suspended communication with Washington in an effort to curb any U.S. influence in the Venezuelan elections.
