The Republic of Yemen continues to suffer chronic instability only a few years after the resignation of former president and military strongman Ali Abdullah Saleh, who this week left on a special plane to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment. At the same time, Saudi Arabia is in the process of expelling some three hundred thousand Yemeni workers in order to cope with its employment crisis, which will surely contribute to instability and income depletion in Yemen. In an interview conducted this earlier week, the current Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi noted that he believes unemployment to be a direct catalyst for the growing power of Al-Qaeda in the region (April 2, 2013 TIME; April 4, 2013 RT; April 2, 2013 The Guardian).
