A potential crisis in the Lebanese Republic has seemingly been averted two weeks after ex-Prime Minister Najib Mikati tendered his resignation due to political infighting in his cabinet. This past Saturday, Tammam Salam was asked to form the next Lebanese government after receiving endorsements from almost all major pro and anti-Assad politicians in parliament With 124 out of 128 votes cast in his favour, Salam has stated that he hopes to establish a national unity government to “save the country” (April 6, 2013 New York Times; March 22, 2013 BBC News).
