The Palestinian Authority is in disarray after last-minute attempts by Western powers to have Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad withdraw his resignation failed. In the Gaza Strip, the ruling militant party Hamas has come under pressure itself after Human Rights Watch accused the group of failing to investigate the killings of seven Palestinians in the coastal territory accused of collaborating with Israel.
