West Bank and Gaza Strip

The Palestinian Authority is in disarray after last-minute attempts by Western powers to have Salam Fayyad withdraw his resignation failed. In the Gaza Strip, the ruling militant party Hamas has come under pressure itself after Human Rights Watch accused the group of failing to investigate the killings of seven Palestinians in the coastal territory accused of collaborating with Israel. Palestinian leaders of the rival Fatah and Hamas political movements have also met in Cairo in recent days to discuss confidence-building and reconciliation efforts despite the heated tensions between the two parties.
