Chile’s largest labour union, the Central Union of Workers, hosted a massive strike through the streets of Santiago this week. The protestors were estimated anywhere between 30 000 to 150 000. The protests were in an effort to demand improved labour conditions and tax reform. Chile has also joined the list of Latin American countries seeking answers from the US government after spying allegations have been released. No word has been received regarding the matter. Lastly, former Chilean President and current presidential hopeful Michelle Bachelet is reportedly having trouble consolidating Chile’s leftist parties to come out ahead in the upcoming elections. Former President Bachelet was able to win over the left-leaning Socialist party but is finding friction in including the leftists in the country.
