The outgoing United Nations envoy to Iraq Martin Kobler has expressed concern over reports of human rights abuses by the leadership of the Iranian dissident group the People’s Mujahideen of Iran (PMOI) which is based at Camp Hurriya north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. Concurrently, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spent two days visiting the Republic of Iraq last week in his second and last trip as president of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iraq has also suffered another week of deadly violence in which waves of bombings and shooting attacks have left more than 70 dead and hundreds injured across the country in coordinated attacks against Sunni, Shi’ite, and Kurdish targets.
