The Venezuelan Parliament has approved a motion to incorporate Bolivia as a full member of Mercosur. The decision has cleared the way for Bolivia to become the sixth member of the South American trade bloc. Approval from the parliaments of other member countries is still necessary but the initial approval creates strong momentum for the possibility of Bolivia’s incorporation. As it stands, the only country who may oppose the move is Paraguay who states that Bolivia cannot join Mercosur while still a member of a separate trade bloc, the Andean Community.
