Peruvian officials have reportedly captured and burned more than three tonnes of narcotics including marijuana, opiates and cocaine. The operations are reported to have taken place in June and July of this year, and led to multiple arrests throughout the country. Despite this being the third massive drug burn for the country, Peruvian officials state that there are still very large drug threats throughout the country.  Consequently, annual talks between Peruvian and Chilean military officials have continued on this week following increased military tensions between both nations. Both countries are currently embroiled in a legal battle with the international courts regarding a territorial dispute which has spawned reports of increased military activity on both sides of the border.
